One Penn Plaza, NYC
One Penn Plaza, NYC, USA Management Experience
This building was built in 1972 and is located next to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station in the Garment District. This fourth-largest office building in New York City is 57-stories and 751 feet tall, has gray glass exterior, and dominates the immediate neighborhood.
Main entrances are on the 33rd street, 34th Street, and Eighth Avenue sides, with trees, planters, restaurants and cafés. Expecting the open plaza's windiness, an innovative water feature was conceived instead of an ordinary fountain: a tall dark stone pyramid that in summer emits water spray, and in winter emits steam .
The granite and marble main lobby boasts a red granite "One Penn Plaza" logo on the floor leading to elevator lobbies for the building's 44 elevators, with ceilings in silver leaf finish. . There are two escalator lobbies that connect to the Long Island Railroad station and the New York City Subway station concourses, escalator corridors showcasing photo murals & vaulted ceilings, and the Seventh Avenue gallery.
Helmsley-Spear (managers of Empire State Building etc.) who manages the building, had it renovated in 1995. Four similar 26 foot red and white neon-light "One Penn Plaza" logos decorate the top of the building for easy identification.
